Frederique Backaert

Began his Ph.D. research in 2007 at Ghent University within the group of professor Johan Van der Eycken. This Ph.D. research emphasized on the solid-phase synthesis of structural mimicks of the 1,5-benzodiazepine motif. After a one-year post-doctoral research in the same research group, in 2014, Frederique started a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

In 2008, Frederique Backaert initiated his commitment for the chemical society by becoming a board member of the young members division of the Royal Flemish Chemical Society including positions as president and vice-president of this youth section.

In 2012, Frederique, became a member of the board of the European Young Chemists’ Network (EYCN) after participating the 7th Delegates Assembly and is currently acting as chair of this young members division of EuCheMS.

Frederique Backaert was actively involved in organising the EYCN Career Days during the 4th and the 5th EuCheMS conference respectively in Prague and Istanbul.
