David Cole-Hamilton

Following BSc and PhD degrees in Edinburgh, David worked with Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson at Imperial College for four years.

Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions in Liverpool were followed by appointment to the Irvine Chair of Chemistry at the University of St. Andrews in 1985.

He retired from the Chair in August 2014.

His main research interests have been in the application of Organometallic Chemistry to solving problems in Homogeneous Catalysis and Materials Chemistry, although his group also developed a process for drying archaeological wood using supercritical drying.

Recent prizes include the Tilden Lectureship and the Sir Geoffrey Wilkinson Prize, both of the Royal Society of Chemistry and several prizes for teachjng based on student opinion.

He was Chair of the organising Committee for the 20th EuCheMS Conference on Organometallic Chemistry held in St. Andrews in 2014.

In addition to being President of EuCheMS, David is President of the Dalton Division of the RSC and sits on the Royal Society of Edinburgh Education Committee.
